We explore one of the most captivating natural areas in Salento on a scenic hike through the Porto Selvaggio Natural Park.
We begin with a visit to the Torre dell’Alto — also known as the Tower of the Damned — perched dramatically above the sea. From there, we walk through fragrant pine forests and the dense macchia mediterranea (Mediterranean scrubland), making our way to Uluzzo Tower.
This area is home to some of Europe’s most significant prehistoric caves, where Neanderthal remains were discovered. These findings gave name to an entire cultural phase: the Uluzzian Age.
Continuing along wide, gentle paths, we reach the beach of Porto Selvaggio and the mystical Cave of Capelvenere, where—according to legend—Cupid was born.
